Ubisoft says there are no additional Assassin’s Creed remakes in the works

Ubisoft has confirmed that there are currently no additional Assassin's Creed remakes in development. The update comes just months after the successful launch of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, which has been one of this year's highest-rated games.

In its latest franchise update, Ubisoft reflected on the development of Black Flag Resynced, describing the project as the series' first-ever remake and acknowledging the challenges of rebuilding classic Assassin's Creed systems while balancing nostalgia with modern improvements. However, the company also took the opportunity to clarify that it currently has no other remakes actively in development, with its teams focused on upcoming Assassin's Creed projects instead.

The statement may come as a disappointment to some fans, particularly following the positive reception to Black Flag Resynced. Ubisoft noted that the project taught the team a tremendous amount about revisiting older games, but it also made clear that current resources are being directed towards future releases, including Codename Hexe, Codename Invictus and other unannounced projects. While Ubisoft stressed that the door remains open for additional remakes in the future, there are no plans to announce any in the near term.

It's also fair to question how many Assassin's Creed games actually warrant the remake treatment. Black Flag was an obvious candidate as one of the franchise's most popular and enduring releases, but there are far fewer clear-cut options when looking across the rest of the series.

For now, Ubisoft appears focused on the future rather than the past. That's probably the right call after the success of Black Flag Resynced, but it's difficult to imagine the remake conversation disappearing entirely. If anything, the popularity of Black Flag's return has likely convinced many players that some older Assassin's Creed titles deserve a second chance as well. Personally, I would like to see Unity get a second chance to make up for its poor initial launch.
