Love it or hate it, Fallout 76 has received a great deal of support ever since the game’s initial launch all the way back in 2018. While it remains fundamentally the same experience, the continued addition of new content has slowly but surely attracted new players to the multiplayer-focused action-RPG. Just one month on from the game’s long-awaited native current-gen patch, Fallout 76 has now reached a total of 25 million players.
2026’s edition of the team’s annual Fallout Day is officially here, with Bethesda showing off what they and their partners have been working on. With regards to Fallout 76, the team offered a look at the game’s next big update.
Set to go live on the 1st of December, the World of Pets update will bring with it…pets. Ranging from cats and dogs to radhogs and deathclaws, players will be able to “choose the perfect pet, give them a name, customize their appearance, and set out with a loyal friend by your side.”
As part of this overview trailer, the team also confirmed that Fallout 76 had reached a new player milestone: officially surpassing 25 million copies.
While undeniably a massive number (especially considering it suffered from one of the most infamous launches in modern gaming), the rise of Fallout 76 has been a slow and steady one, with its history of milestone achievements being as follows:
- June 2025 – 23 million
- November 2024 – 21 million
- May 2024 – 20 million
- December 2023 – 17 million
- June 2023 – 15 million
- October 2022 – 13 million
- November 2021 – 11 million
As always, 25 million players does not equate to 25 million copies sold, with Fallout 76 being available for ‘free’ through the likes of Xbox Game Pass and even PlayStation Plus. Still, for a game which was lambasted (justifiably) at launch, it is interesting to see FO76 continuing to succeed almost a decade later.
