Metro Redux’s free next-gen update is officially available now on PC, bringing improved audio; visuals; animations and much more. The post Metro Redux ‘next-gen update’ for PC is officially available ...

A couple weeks ago, the team at 4A Games officially announced that the first two entries in their much-loved Metro series would be receiving free comprehensive ‘next-gen updates’ – both for consoles as well as PC. While the PlayStation and Xbox versions aren’t scheduled to release until next week, those on PC can enjoy both Metro 2033 and Last Light in their next-gen forms right now; bringing with it a litany of welcome improvements.
Taking to their Steam page, the team at 4A Games officially detailed all of the improvements which have been added to the PC version of Metro 2033 and Last Light as part of this latest update. While the full suite of patch notes can be found HERE, some of the most notable enhancements include:
- Uncapped FPS
- TSR, DLSS and FSR upscaling support
- Screen Space Global Illumination
- Increased geometry details
- Increased texture details
- Improved PBR materials
- Improved animation quality
- Spatial audio support
- Dozens of bug fixes including ‘PhysX’ support improvements
While certainly a welcome update (especially for free) it will perhaps be more interesting to see what will become of the current-gen console versions given that they have until now been limited to their original 2014 iterations (meaning just 1080p and 60fps based on PS4 / Xbox One hardware).
Regardless, with the 4th game in the series – Metro 2039 – set to arrive in February of next year, now is as good a time as any to revisit this unique and tense first-person action-horror series.
