Porting studio Aspyr has been hard at work bringing a number of 3rd party games from previous generations onto Nintendo’s latest and greatest Switch 2. One such series has been Crystal Dynamic’s rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy. Following the arrival of the first game late last year, and Rise of the Tomb Raider this past June, Aspyr have now announced and released Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition for the Switch 2.
Announcing and releasing the game simultaneously (as was the case with the previous two ports), 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider is officially available to purchase now on the Nintendo Switch 2. Described as being “rebuilt for Nintendo Switch 2” no technical details have been provided, with the trailer released being limited to just 1080p and 30fps.
Given that Rise of the Tomb Raider operated at 30fps and a 1080p-ish resolution on Switch 2, it makes sense that the final (and most ambitious) entry is seeing some degree of compromise.
Being the most recent entry, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is also the most costly, launching at the not-so-insignificant price of $39.99 (though is currently having a launch sale which saves you 10%). In addition, those who have not bought the first two games can now get their hands on the ‘Definitive Survivor Trilogy’ for $69.99 (currently on sale for $62.99).
The entirety of the Tomb Raider Survivor trilogy is great and certainly worth experiencing. That said, $40 for a (possibly downgraded) port of an 8 year old game might be too much of an ask for some.
KitGuru says: What do you think of the price? Is it too costly? Which entry in the survivor trilogy is your favourite? Let us know down below.
