More than a decade on from the first game’s release, the campy interactive horror adventure Until Dawn is set to receive a sequel. Officially arriving on the 28th of January, the cogs in Sony’s marketing machine have started to turn, with the console manufacturer announcing a ‘live’ presentation featuring gameplay for Until Dawn 2, set to take place next month.
Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the official PlayStation page revealed that they will be hosting an in-person event in anticipation of the upcoming Until Dawn 2, writing:
“Until Dawn 2 comes to Alamo Drafthouse on December 11 for exclusive gameplay, a horror movie marathon, and special talent appearances. More details on the event and livestream coming soon.”
Serving as a bit of multi-media marketing, this is not the first time that PlayStation has partnered with the Alamo Drafthouse, with its screens being used for various PlayStation presentations in the past.
Regardless of whether you watch in-person or online, the upcoming livestream should give us our best look yet at the game. Of course, the original Until Dawn was not a gameplay-focused experience, and so it will be interesting to see how different the sequel will choose to approach this aspect of the game.
Based on the footage shared so far, Until Dawn 2 does appear to be in-line mechanically with the first game. That said, with new studio Firespite in charge this time round, things could be quite different. We will have to wait until next month to find out.
