Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) appears on game ratings board

Earlier this year, during the mid-way point in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s lifecycle, Activision announced and released current-gen ports for both Black Ops 1 and 2 for PlayStation, marking the first time that PS4/5 owners have been able to play either game on their system (due to the lack of backwards compatibility with PS3). It appears as though something similar might be happening with the OG Modern Warfare 2 – as the 2009 classic has now popped up on the Australian games rating board.

As reported by multiple users, the Australian Classifications board recently published a new listing for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009). As of now, the listing does not include too much in the way of details, and so it is unknown whether this port will be exclusive to PlayStation (as was the case with BO1+2).

That said, what is clear is the fact that this port appears to be the full MW2 experience, with the rating making explicit note of “Online Interactivity and Chat” – meaning unlike 2020’s Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, this release should include the game’s iconic multiplayer modes.

In a less positive comparison to Campaign Remastered however, this port is likely to be just that: a port, meaning players can expect pretty much the exact same visuals and settings as the PS3 original (meaning 60fps and a low-FOV) albeit at a slightly higher resolution.

Regardless, given the fact that the aforementioned BO1+2 ports ended up selling over 11 million copies in its first month alone, it’s safe to assume that Activision will port over all of the 7th-gen Call of Duty offerings eventually.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this listing? Could we see MW2 ported over within Modern Warfare 4’s lifecycle? Would you rather they release a basic port or a more comprehensive remaster (as was the case with the OG Modern Warfare)? Let us know down below.
