Skalarki's evolution from a garage project to a respected simulator manufacturer emphasizes authenticity, engineering excellence, and community connection.
Skalarki Electronics has carved a niche for itself in the flight simulation industry, not through loud marketing strategies but by consistently delivering high-quality products. Established with a passion for engineering, the company has quietly emerged as a formidable player, supplying customizable cockpit components to both professionals and hardcore enthusiasts. Their journey reflects a commitment to craftsmanship and a focus on authentic user experiences.
Humble Beginnings
The origins of Skalarki trace back to Marcin’s personal obsession with electronics, predating the company’s official start. His early engagement with the world of flight simulation hardware in the late 2000s wasn't driven by market strategies but rather a technical challenge he found captivating. Jan, Marcin's partner, recalls, “At that time, there was no intention of creating a commercial product. The work was driven solely by personal interest.” This lack of commercial pressure allowed for a more organic development of ideas without constraints on design or production timelines.
Engineering-Driven Innovations
Instead of simply entering the commercial fray, Marcin immersed himself in the technical aspects, sharing his progress within the DIY community. Interest piqued significantly when he posted images of his Airbus A320 Flight Control Unit, leading to inquiries about availability and production. This shift in perception prompted a thoughtful transition, one not marked by haste but by rigorous experimentation and improvement in engineering.
By 2010, Skalarki strategically focused its efforts on A320 hardware, recognizing a gap in the market for professional-grade components that captured the authentic feel of real aircraft. Marcin reflects, “Focusing on A320 hardware around year 2010 gave us stable growth.” This decision was pivotal for the company as they began to gain traction and establish a reputation within the flight simulation community.
A Unique Production Approach
What set Skalarki apart early on was its self-sufficiency. Unlike many competitors who rely heavily on third-party parts, Marcin designed nearly every aspect of the hardware in-house, from electronics to firmware and software interfaces. “We created a product from nothing,” he notes. This holistic approach offered unparalleled integration, setting a standard that many larger manufacturers could only aspire to.
As the company matured, so did their operations. Early projects included comprehensive cockpit panels for various aircraft, notably a contract in 2017 that involved delivering five complete A320 panel sets to a client in China — a significant milestone that expanded their international reach.
Growth Through Commitment
Skalarki commenced trading in 2012 from Marcin’s garage, with no grand ambitions beyond being a family-run business. Gradual growth followed, marked by significant milestones such as the first employee hired in 2014 and the acquisition of a high-end CNC machine in 2015. Marcin credits this machine as a watershed moment in bolstering production quality and efficiency.
Continuing to thrive, Skalarki faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, temporarily halting operations in March 2020. However, they pivoted quickly toward producing protective equipment for health care workers. When manufacturing resumed, they found themselves swamped with orders, yielding an unexpected financial boom with a 150% increase in growth by the end of 2020. This allowed the company to invest in automation and relocate to a larger facility in 2021.
Building Community Connections
Despite Skalarki's strong roots in professional simulation, individual enthusiasts looking to build their own cockpits were always considered. From their inception, the company offered individual components, allowing users to curate their simulation setup gradually. This inclusive approach meant a customer could integrate different hardware lines — a philosophy that predated many competitors' offerings.
Recognizing the need to enhance visibility in an increasingly competitive market, Skalarki has recently taken steps to be more transparent and approachable, particularly following Jan's appointment as Media Manager in 2025. Their new media strategy focuses on authentic storytelling, as evidenced by a documentary series that looks behind the curtain of manufacturing, rather than glossing over the complexities involved.
The Road Ahead
Looking towards the future, Skalarki aims to expand its offerings beyond Airbus into Boeing hardware, particularly the popular 777 model, which they see as a significant market opportunity. Nevertheless, the company’s vision remains grounded in maintaining balance, whether between different aviation segments or in their commitment to quality against the backdrop of community engagement.
From modest beginnings in a garage to a reputable brand on the global stage, Skalarki's evolution underscores the idea that authenticity in flight simulation isn't just a characteristic but foundational to every element of their work — from design to customer communication.
