Mass Effect series still in the works at Amazon

If you missed the news yesterday, BioWare is officially shutting down, and the studio's next Mass Effect game has also been cancelled after six years in pre-production. While we won't be getting a new Mass Effect game anytime soon, there is still hope for the announced TV series.

According to IGN's sources, Amazon MGM remains in development on the Mass Effect series, with BioWare's shutdown having no impact on the show. However, beyond that, there is no word on how far along the show is in development.

Rumours about Amazon picking up the TV / Film rights to Mass Effect first circulated in 2021, shortly after The Expanse ended, but it wasn't confirmed until 2024. Two years have passed since then with no official update.

While the series is set to be based on the Mass Effect IP, it isn't going to centre around Commander Shepard, the main protagonist of the videogame trilogy.
