Asus expands ROG Ace lineup with new 540Hz and 720Hz OLED esports monitors

ASUS has announced the ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace and ROG Strix OLED XG259QWPG Ace, two new 24.5-inch esports monitors aimed at competitive players. Leading the charge is the flagship PG259QWS Ace, which combines a 720Hz refresh rate with a 0.02ms response time, making it one of the fastest gaming monitors currently available.

Both monitors are built around a 24.5-inch 1080p Tandem WOLED panel with a glossy finish, 99.5% DCI-P3 colour coverage and up to 1700 nits peak HDR brightness. ASUS is positioning the displays as an alternative to traditional TN-based esports monitors, offering OLED-level contrast, colour reproduction and viewing angles while still delivering the high refresh rates demanded by competitive players. The monitors also support Extreme Low Motion Blur technology, adaptive refresh rate technologies and ASUS' OLED Care Pro to mitigate burn-in.

The PG259QWS Ace is the more premium of the two models, featuring a native 720Hz refresh rate, DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 connectivity and an exclusive Position Sensor that displays monitor height, tilt angle and viewing distance information on-screen. ASUS has also confirmed that the monitor will serve as the official display for the PGL CS2 Major Singapore 2026, marking the first Counter-Strike Major to use OLED monitors. Meanwhile, the ROG Strix OLED XG259QWPG Ace offers a similar feature set but drops the refresh rate to 540Hz and uses DisplayPort 1.4 DSC connectivity in exchange for a lower price point.

ASUS says both monitors were developed with input from professional players and include several esports-focused features, including measurement scales built into the stand so you can quickly adjust to your preferred height, a Quick OSD menu for on-the-fly adjustments and multiple FPS-focused colour presets. The ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace will be available around $1,099, while the ROG Strix OLED XG259QWPG Ace is priced around $699.

KitGuru Says: Do you think esports players will embrace OLED now that refresh rates have reached 540Hz and beyond, or will TN panels continue to have a place in competitive gaming?
