Silent Hill: Townfall update adds new difficulty mode, DLSS Ray Reconstruction and more

Konami seems to have found its stride when it comes to the Silent Hill franchise, with the publisher partnering with a variety of developers to work on new and remade entries in this iconic (yet previously-underserved) series. One such partnership saw the release of Silent Hill: Townfall – a first-person survival horror experience. Released back in September, the game has now gotten a surprise-yet-welcome update, adding an extra difficulty mode among other QoL improvements.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the official Silent Hill page unveiled patch 1.6.0 for Silent Hill: Townfall. Available to download now, the update’s primary addition is that of a new difficulty mode sandwiched between the Normal and Nightmare modes.

With this latest update, players now have a total of 4 difficulties to choose from:

  • Story: “Immerse yourself in the mystery without so much punishment”
  • Normal: “A balanced experience where combat is a viable option”
  • Hard: “An emphasis on stealth, rewarding patience and careful use of resources”
  • Nightmare: “For those who really want to test their survival instincts, this difficulty delivers the most punishing challenge.”

Townfall Update

For the uninitiated, Silent Hill: Townfall first launched with a couple tough encounters which led the team at Screen Burn Interactive to reduce the overall difficulty in a patch post-launch. For some, this then led to the game being a bit too easy, necessitating an additional in-between difficulty. Whether this hard mode will function similarly to the game’s launch difficulty or is its own entire thing remains to be seen, but the addition of new options is always appreciated.

Alongside the new mode, patch 1.6.0 also brings in a PC-exclusive feature – that being the addition of DLSS Ray Reconstruction for those with supported hardware. The full suite of patch notes can be found HERE.
