Cult of the Lamb is getting a free Switch 2 upgrade just in time for Halloween

Cult of the Lamb is an excellent dungeon-crawling rogue-like which manages to blend in a fun-yet-somewhat stressful cult-management system alongside cutesy/creepy animals – topped with an addictive and boppy soundtrack composed by the late great River Boy. Initially launching back in 2022, the game did come to the OG Nintendo Switch, albeit in a somewhat compromised form. Fortunately, with Halloween right around the corner, the team at Massive Monster have confirmed that Cult of the Lamb will be getting a free Switch 2 upgrade later this week.

Making the official announcement via a brief trailer, Massive Monster revealed that Cult of the Lamb will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on the 22nd October.

While details on the port have not been shared, the team did confirm that all those who already own the game on the OG Switch can upgrade for free (with its price remaining the same as its Switch 1 counterpart for those who do not own it).

Cult of the Lamb Switch 2

Being a highly stylised isometric experience, Cult of the Lamb was already a solid experience on the Switch 1. That said, it did suffer from some compromises. At launch, the game was locked to 30fps compared to 60 on other platforms. Though the Switch 1 port was eventually updated with a 60fps performance mode, users at the time noted a not-so-insignificant decrease in its visual clarity as a result.

Considering the gap in power between the two Switch generations, it is safe to assume that Cult of the Lamb on Switch 2 will manage to lock the game to 60fps at the minimum while operating at far higher resolutions both in docked and handheld modes.

That being said, even on current-gen consoles the game can encounter various performance issues at the base camp, depending on how many followers you have. Either way, Cult of the Lamb on Switch 2 should present a welcome upgrade on all fronts compared to the OG Switch release when it officially lands on the 22nd of October.
