Pokémon Unite has been out for around 5 years now, available across Nintendo Switch consoles, as well as iOS and Android. Unfortunately, it would seem that the developers are now throwing in the towel, revealing plans to shut down the game in early 2027.
Pokémon Unite will go offline from March 23rd 2027. At midnight on that date, the servers will shut down for good, and the game will no longer be accessible to those who have it installed. The game will also be delisted from digital stores.
While it wasn't the most popular MOBA on the market, Pokemon Unite did have a dedicated player base, and the game was receiving competitive tournament support. The next tournament, the Pokemon Unite Aeos Crown Tokyo, is still planned to go ahead next year before the shutdown comes into effect.
In Pokémon Unite, players would choose a champion to control from a roster of iconic Pokémon. The rest of the game played out like your standard MOBA, with PvE skirmishes to level up, followed by intense PvP encounters around towers lining each map lane as each team attempts to make a push into the opposing side's home base.
While you will no longer be able to play the actual game come March 23rd, those with the game installed will still be able to launch it and use the in-game library feature, which lets you view each Pokémon and learn a bit more about them.
KitGuru Says: Pokémon Unite seems like the sort of game that should be pretty cheap to leave running. Unfortunately, in this day and age, publishers would prefer to shut down games for good when they are done making content for them, rather than allowing the titles to live on and remain accessible for fans.
