At that moment he became Buddha, the awakened one, and the insights that he gained throughout that night under the tree became the essence of his teachings on the Four Noble Truths, or aryasatya, which is at the core of the Buddhist dharma, or teachings.
The Truths explain the ubiquity of dukkha, inherent in the human condition, a word implying transience, impermanence, imperfection, and suffering. According to the Four Noble Truths, one can escape dukkha by following the Eightfold Path, thus transcending egotism and achieving enlightenment. The Eightfold Path is one of ethical behavior, meditation, and skillful action, and is divided into three trainings, which are all dependent on one another, according to understanding, behavior, and concentration.
