The heat is said to be necessary for his twenty-six-posture series, scientifically designed to enhance the mind and body by warming and stretching muscles, ligaments, and tendons. These twenty-six poses are meant to systematically move fresh, oxygenated blood to each organ and fiber of your body, and to restore all systems to healthy working order, Bikram states in his book, Beginning Yoga Class. He believes that in yoga, there is no standard of comparison except yourself.
