Low Lunge Yoga Pose
Anjaneyasana
This basic standing Yoga Pose is a core asana in the Full Sun Salutation series Pose and is also frequently used as a transition Yoga Pose in sequences. It has many variations. All of them simultaneously build strength and flexibility.
QUALITY Grounding EFFECT Strength, flexibility PROPS Blocks GAZE Forward
1 Begin in Mountain Yoga Pose Pose and fold forward into a Standing Forward Bend Pose as you exhale. As you inhale, reach your left leg back behind you into a low lunge (pictured), with your right knee between your hands. Stay directly over your right ankle as you stretch back through your left heel and flex your left toes. You can place blocks under your hands to help lift your chest.
2 Release your hips down and lift your left thigh as you stretch your chest forward, drawing your shoulders back. Lift your head in line with your spine and gaze forward. Stay for 3 breaths, exhaling deeper into the Yoga Pose with each breath.
3 Step forward with the left leg. Repeat on the other side by stepping back with the right leg.
